You have two choices if it does not.

For starters, you can think about getting the proper coverage, so rental cars will always be covered under your police, through your card, whichever. If you tend to travel a lot and thus need rental cars frequently, this may be the best idea. Remember, it is doubly important to be sure of rental insurance and your own policies when you are driving outside of your country, especially abroad.

Otherwise, you can get coverage through the rental car company you choose to use. However, you have to make sure that you are getting all of the coverage necessary to make you feel comfortable. For example, you need to be covered when thefts occur, and that it covers the car’s contents as well.

Do you need to do it? Should you do it? These questions and others will be answered in this series of posts.

The answer is typically ambiguous. Maybe you should. It might be a good idea. There is no definitive yes or no in most situations. It is just … one of those things.

In some cases, your current policy might cover you when you are in a rented vehicle. Lacking that, your credit card company might provide insurance. You should begin discovering the answer to the question of whether or not you need rental car insurance by seeing if you already have it.

All it takes is a few calls on the phone. Ask your representative to send you confirmation somehow, so you can get the ‘yes’ in writing.
