What to Avoid When Getting Car Insurance: 2

insurance-2Honesty is the best policy — especially when you are looking for a new car insurance policy.

Specifically, it is vital that you are honest — completely honest — where your driving history is concerned. If you lie, your car insurance company will find out, and you could face higher premiums. You could also lose your policy completely.

Remember, car insurance companies will verify all of the information that you give them. Lying can wind up making you get classified as a high risk policy holder, and that is going to make things much, much more expensive for you.

Why risk that? Honesty can go a long way towards making sure you get a good deal. Better still, you need to be a safe and defensive driver so that your driving history and your driving record will never be a worry.

What to Avoid When Getting Car Insurance: 1

insurance-1We shop smart every day — clipping coupons, looking for sales, et cetera. However, many of us do not realize we can be smart when shopping for car insurance as well. The main thing you need to remember is that there are some common misconceptions and mistakes that you have got to avoid.

For starters, do not think that your agent is your friend. He or she is just your agent; you are not a client. A car insurance agent may not be up front about the deals available to you.

You need to know what is on your driving record as well. Specifically, you need to make sure all the information is correct because a mistake could cost you dearly.

It is also vital to understand the relationship between your premiums and your deductibles. Remember, it is an inverse relationship.

Paper Car Insurance Vs. Electric: 2

shopping onlineNow that we have talked about just a couple of the comparisons, let’s really dive right in there.  The one thing that I love about online car insurance is the fact that you can compare and contrast your car insurance against other car insurance companies and rates right there and now.  You do not have to wait for someone to give you a call back or you do not have to call ten different places to get a quote … that is just a personal preference for me.

However, talking to people and truly understanding your policy is something that not a lot of us internet people actually have.  Having a great understand of your car insurance policy is something that many – many people do not have and if you get into a car accident, nine times outta ten, you are not going to know what is covered.

That is not a good thing; however, the internet is not always a bad thing!  Just make sure that you educate yourself … seriously educate yourself.

Tips for Filing an Insurance Claim: 2

claim-2So how can you stack the odds in your favor, as it were, in order to file and successfully win an insurance claim?

Well, filing the claim in itself is fairly easy. You have to get in contact with your car insurance agent, fill out a claims form, wait for an adjuster to take a look at the damage to your vehicle, and then — ideally — you just have to wait to receive your check.

Typically, this all happens pretty quickly. However, in every state, there are certain requirements for performance as it applies to responding to and handling claims. You can call the insurance department in your state if you think your claim is taking too long to go through.

However, this whole process has the potential to be a hazardous one, if you happen to try and file too many insurance claims. Then your company may see you as a high risk.

What Isn’t Your Car Insurance Company Telling You? 2

secret-2Another thing many drivers are not aware of is the importance of the kind of car they drive. The model of car you drive can and will have a tremendous effect on the amount of your premiums. Your insurance company will not give you these numbers. It may in fact be impossible to know what those numbers are at all. However, car insurance companies have a rating system in place for every single make and model of vehicle you can imagine. The majority of them use a system which was created by the Insurance Services Offices. This system begins by using the cost of the particular vehicle in question. Other factors used include information about theft and safety. The vehicles receive a rating anywhere between one and twenty seven. The rating directly affects the cost of the premium, so a vehicle with a rating of 20 will carry higher premiums than a vehicle with a rating of 11.

There are fortunately lots of comparison tools on the internet you can use to try and estimate the premiums your vehicle should carry. These are helpful when you are buying a new car as well.

What Isn’t Your Car Insurance Company Telling You? 1

secret-1You have heard it before. Neither your car insurance company nor the agent with whom you work are your friends. You are a client. Thus, you need to always keep in mind that some very important secrets are being kept from you — but we are going to reveal quite a few of them in the coming posts.

Now, the first secret is not so well kept any longer. It involves your credit. If your credit is good, you will be able to pay less for your car insurance. Your credit report will get pulled by most if not all insurers, because many studies show that there is a direct link between your score and how likely you will be to file a claim. It also reveals your bill paying habits.

This information is used to create what is known as an “insurance risk score.” That will not be available for you to see, but it is quite similar to your personal credit score, so knowing the shape your score is in can help you save money. Remember, there are lots of things you can do to improve your credit score.
